This has...I'm sorry the film fell flat for you. This has been one of my favorites of the year, and I enjoyed the book too. I just felt like Eilis was a character I could relate with so much. Especially with how she views her home town in the final minutes of the film. I was rooting for her to do her own thing throughout.
