Thursday Movie Picks: Zombie Movies

Here's another entry to Wandering Through the Shelves' Thursday Movie Picks Meme! This month's topics all have horror culture in them, a genre I really don't watch myself. So pardon my entries that they don't seem horror-ish, or scary at all. This week's theme is zombie movies. Usually I'd try to add a hidden gem in my three choices, but with my limited number of movies, I decided to go with movies I like!

Zombieland is my ultimate favorite zombie-related movie. The story of four strangers teaming together to survive the attacks is funny enough when even they're trying to outsmart each other. The Bill Murray cameo was fantastic. It was an engaging movie that puts to use Jesse Eisenberg's nerd-ish persona, and allows Woody Harrelson to have fun on his role. The memorable part of the movie would have to be the rules.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy World War Z. I was aware of the filming drama, and drama sometimes results to a really bad movie. However, it exceeded my expectations and brought a thrilling flick that the plot and story line kept engaging. The zombie attacks were surreal! It helps that Brad Pitt looked great in the role, but I think other actors could have been cast in his stead. If this does spun a sequel (because it really looks like it will), I wish that the supporting cast get to play a more primary role.

It's a rare feat that a zombie movie be in the point of the zombie, but that's what Warm Bodies work with. A modern re-telling of Romeo and Juliet (spoiler: it ends well) has lead zombie R develop unexplained feelings for Julie when he devoured the brain of Julie's then-boyfriend. This change in R eventually leads to an unexplained movement among the zombie community, much to the chagrin of the zombie leaders and the disbelief of the humans. I liked how the movie was made without high-profiled actors in the lead (so there's not much pressure), but the result was great. The characters had some chemistry, and it was interesting to see the events unfold.

  1. Ha, these picks are popular (and rightfully so) Despite loving horror, some of the picks I did for this month's themes aren't outright horror either. Especially in the found footage week.

    1. Zombieland was funny. Besides Bill Murray, I really liked Woody Harrelson's character as well.

  3. The World War Z sequel could be the chance (although there probably little chance of that) to actually follow a little more closely to the book...more about the world rather than one man's fight to save the world.
