Thursday Movie Picks: Secret Agents/Spies

Happy Thursday everyone! One more day until the weekend; I'm hoping to catch Spectre this weekend, keeping my fingers crossed! This week's theme is quite timely with the film's release - secret agents or spies! Here are my picks this week:

Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin
The Man from UNCLE
I enjoyed The Man from UNCLE; it was an entertaining popcorn flick. The rapport between Solo and Kuryakin was a highlight - the way each played their strengths or tried to impress the other of their superiority, they made the movie fun.

Rama
The Raid 2: Berendal
Rama became an undercover cop in this installment, infiltrating a drug lord group in order to expose the dealings between the police commissioner and the drug gangs. The events immediately follow the first movie, but the sequel doesn't rehash its predecessor. I have no idea how they're going to top the sequences in this one; it was that good.

Plutarch Heavensbee
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Heavensbee isn't your typical spy, action-wise. His purpose was revealed at the latter part of the movie, though hints of it were scattered during the first parts of the movie. He was very good at his work; managed to get into President Snow's good graces, became the head Gamemaker in the Quarter Quell and successfully extracted Katniss out with a help of fellow allies.

  1. Love The Raid movies. Can't get enough of them. The Hunger Games, not so much. Haven't seen The Man from UNCLE just yet. Hope too, soon. Great work!

  4. I haven't seen the first two, but that's an excellent call on Catching Fire. I never would've thought of that.

  5. LOVE your first pick! I wasn't an ardent fan of the original Man from U.N.C.L.E. though I liked it and I was glad to see the film retain at least the spirit of it without requiring audiences unfamiliar with it to be lost. All three leads were enjoyable and what a great looking film it was. I was sorry to see it not do as well as it should since I'd have liked to see a sequel.

I haven't seen your other two picks. I've heard of The Raid films but haven't gotten around to them yet. I loathed the first Hunger Games so I gave the sequels the skip.

  6. LOVED Man From UNCLE. So much fun and you're right, the rapport between Solo and Kuryakin was a highlight. Clever inclusion of Catching Fire - I didn't like it as much as the first but it was still very good.

  11. I haven't seen any of them. The Man from UNCLE looks very retro pretty, so I'm definitely going to see that.
