Thursday Movie Picks: Intersecting Stories

Thursday Movie Picks is a weekly meme hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves. This week's theme is about intersecting stories - so an ensemble cast with different story arcs that are somewhat interconnected with each other. Here are my picks for this week.

HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU
This is one of my guilty pleasure movies. The stories revolve around different women who happen to be co-workers: one is looking for love, the other is in a troubled marriage, and the last one being in a relationship that doesn’t seem to be moving forward. This is based on a book with the same title. I haven’t read it but the people who did say that some of the theories in the book make sense.

LOVE ACTUALLY
I skipped the 'memorable declaration of love' week, so I will be using this movie for this category instead. My favorite story here is of Alan Rickman's and Emma Thompson; it was quite sad and I would have loved to have more of their segment.

FISH STORY
Fish Story is a Japanese film that is comprised of anthologies of story that originally stem from a rock song released before rock music was a big thing. I enjoyed watching this one, and their tagline ‘the song that will save the world’ or something to that extent, is actually explained towards the end. The movie spans into different years, but their connection is explained towards the end.

  1. Fish Story sounds interesting. I've seen your first two, I don't remember much from He's Just Not That Into You. Love Actually is a nice film too.

    1. Fish Story was a movie where I didn't know what to expect from it. The stories were good and had a mixture of (slight) horror, action, drama and comedy.

  2. Haven't seen any of these. Never cared to see the first, but I do want to see the second. Just haven't gotten around to it, yet. Never even heard of that last one, but it does sound interesting.

    1. I hope you get to watch Love Actually soon! I do recommend watching it during the holidays as it's very much a holiday movie.

  3. I have only seen parts of He's just not that into you but I have read the book and it does make sense for sure. It is also quite funny and uplifting. I had picked Love Actually before and Love Rickman and Thompson but also my favourite is Colin Firth's character. I don't know the 3rd one at all

    1. I might try to read it sometime, I think I have a copy of it somewhere. I liked Colin Firth's character as well.

  4. I LOVE Love, Actually and it works so wonderfully for the theme. So many others have tried to replicate its formula and failed miserably which only increases my admiration for it all the more.

Like that you went with a guilty pleasure movie. He's Just Not That Into You is a flyaway of a movie but pleasant enough.

Haven't seen the third but it sounds like a good one.

  7. Fish Story! My friend has been talking about this film for years but she stumbled upon it randomly one night on TV. I really want to see this! I actually quite enjoyed He's Just Not That Into You but I loath Love Actually. Its so over blown in the UK and its always on TV - I can't escape it.
