I don’t go to the cinema anymore during the last days of December, so in terms of theatrical release I am done. Which means it’s time to start another watch list for the upcoming year, from looking at the commercial offerings down to festival darlings that will be making waves in the next year. For this week’s theme I am going with children’s movies that adults would also watch and enjoy.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World : As someone who has binged the show earlier this year, I wouldn’t miss the final saga of the adventures of Hiccup, Toothless, and the gang. The third (and final?) film shows Hiccup searching for the Hidden World of dragons – and discovering that Toothless isn’t the last of his kind. I’ve really liked the first two movies, and I’m hoping the third one will be brilliant.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu : This could be entertaining or terrible – it could go either way, really. Pokemon had a worldwide resurgence for the past couple of years thanks to Pokemon Go, and thus the movie was born. I think it would be interesting to see it unfold, and with a summer release date it sure is plump for competition.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part : I really enjoyed the first movie, though I wasn't impressed with the sequel's trailer. It seems like it picks off from where the first movie ended, with new Lego invading their city. This could either be good or suffer from the terrible sequel syndrome but in any case, I'll still go and watch it.
We match on HTTYD! I love those movies, I can't wait to see how this wraps up. I'll definitely see Lego Movie 2 as well. Pikachu I'm not sold on.
ReplyDeleteWe share Detective Pikachu! I think it's going to be awesome. I didn't know about The Lego Movie 2 but I loved the first one so I'll definitely check this one out.
ReplyDeleteI could go for all 3 of these films as I'm sure they're just good fun.
ReplyDeleteNice picks! I feel the same about Pokemon: Detective Pikachu - it could either be good or bad.
ReplyDeleteShame on me. I totally forgot The Lego Movie 2 was coming out in '19. I'm definitely hype for that one.
ReplyDeleteI'm still looking forward to Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. The next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot also starts production at the end of the year
