Double Feature: Die Hard / Die Hard 2

What was originally going to be a four-review feature, I decided to split the reviews into two camps, primarily because of the tone and atmosphere shift that happened in the franchise. The Die Hard franchise follows the life of one John McClane, and all of the horrible things that could happen in a span of one cop's life, considering he stumbles through most of it on coincidence. The movies show a chronological movement in his life: from his troubled marriage to his troubled relationship with his now grown-up children. The first two Die Hard movies happen during Christmas Eve, with a year span from each other. Both movies also carry a one-location format, with Die Hard being set in Holly McClane's workplace, and Die Hard 2 occurs in an airport in Washington, D.C.

A Good Day to Die Hard

Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch
Director: John Moore

I will officially start this off by saying that I am more amused with the audience's reactions to certain parts of the movie rather than the flick itself. Besides soliciting a few movie theater laughs with the one-liners that are trying to be bad-ass, or the stunts that basically plagued the entire movie, most movie goers with me were entertained. As far as that sounds, that movie was not at all entertaining. It was unstructured, written badly and it felt like it was going nowhere. The entire film was purely explosion, gun firing and more explosion, with Bruce Willis mouthing off ill-written lines to suit an action movie. The ohhhs and the ahhhs of the audience was better than this.

Moonrise Kingdom

Cast: Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray
Director: Wes Anderson

After many futile attempts to watch this, I finally finished Moonrise Kingdom. I wanted to watch it because I read that it was good. Plus, it was Wes Anderson so I already knew what to expect. However, after the film, my thoughts were undecisive. Did I like it? I don't know. Did I not like it? I don't know either. I understand why people raved about it, plot-wise, it was very Wes Anderson but there were some aspects just got me (for a lack of a better word) irritated.
