Thursday Movie Picks: Teenage Comedies

Thursday sure came early this month! Thursday Movie Picks is a year-long event hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, in where she gives a theme for the day and we list down three movies we associate with it. This week’s theme is teenage comedies. There are tons of movies to choose from, but I thought I’d make my picks female-centered this week.

Drop Dead Gorgeous is a movie that I didn’t expect I’d like. The premise revolved around the beauty pageant scene, primarily focusing on the competition between the teens at Mount Rose, Minnesota. Kirsten Dunst plays a likable lead, the one to root for and the movie diverges to the politics involved in the pageant, just for people to be crowned. It features a lot of familiar faces, and it was quite enjoyable.

Mean Girls is one iconic movie, being celebrated for its memorable scenes, quotable lines and the all around awesomeness that the movie has provided. The movie was so much fun and unexpectedly, a really good teen movie. This is also Lindsay Lohan’s best role to date.

Easy A launched Emma Stone into stardom - carrying her zany comedy style over, she was easily likable and pretty much carried the movie. The premise of the movie seemed a bit weird (paying her to pretend do guy-girl stuff for bragging rights), but with Stone’s charm, the movie easily won me over.

  1. Terrific choices. I waited for years to watch Mean Girls since it didn't seem like something directed to me but once I broke down and gave it a chance really liked it. Drop Dead Gorgeous is one fractured, demented movie and what a cast! I LOVE Easy A, Emma Stone drives the movie but the whole cast is great, Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci are perfect as her parents.

  7. ERMAHGERD! Drop Dead Gorgeous is so much love. That movie makes me laugh so hard...so many great moments. That wheelchair lipsync scene is probably my favorite scene from a comedy every.

  11. Great picks! I chose Easy A, too. I agree that it was largely Emma Stone's charm that carried the movie.

  14. Great picks. I didn't care for Drop Dead Gorgeous when I first saw it, but it's been so long that my opinion could change if I were to re-watch it. I haven't seen Mean Girls but it seems to be a pretty popular title so I've added it to my watch list. I loved Easy A, actually pretty much anything Emma Stone has been haha
