Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is the third installment in the Thor franchise, and has a much different tone from its predecessors. The movie has Thor facing the biggest battle known in Norse mythology – Ragnarok, the end of the world. In this case, Ragnarok meant the end of Asgard, the place getting engulfed in flames. This isn’t a spoiler; the events of Ragnarok have been explained in the opening credits. In this installment, Thor faces Hela, Goddess of Death. The viewers find out what happened to Hulk, and more of Norse mythology comes to play in the form of Valkyrie. Ragnarok is an entertaining installment in the Marvel universe, but it doesn’t really have much working for it. *spoilers ahead*

Carol

Therese is a salesperson working in the toy department of a store when she encounters Carol. Carol is a mother of a young girl who is going through a divorce from her persistent husband. Both women were at crossroads in their lives when they intertwine and end up falling in love. 

Double Feature: How to Train Your Dragon / How to Train Your Dragon 2

This is one of those franchises where the sequel doesn't only offer what its predecessor did, but has managed to develop as well. While the sequel might not be as marvelous as the former, it had merits on its own that deserves appreciation. Both films were undeniably wonderful, both for children and adults alike. It offered adventure and danger, with a touch of fantasy, with its root being the heart of the character, and the relationship he has with his dragon. I think both should be seen together, as it is through the sequel that we get to examine how the franchise has grown up with its characters.

Notes on a Scandal

How far would we go for a friend? When is the line between genuine friendship and obsession crossed? Barbara is a teacher who always felt alone, especially after her only friend has left. She meets the new art teacher Sheba Hart, and determined that she would be her new friend, the replacement for her old one. The relationship works to her advantage when she seizes an opportunity to hold on to Sheba after uncovering her secret. What follows is Barbara's prodding into Sheba's life wanting to be part of it, that she would go to a different extent that would eventually threaten the relationship.
