Bombshell

Since the story of allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein erupted, more and more harassment cases are being unearthed, as women bond together to say enough is enough. It also exposes the hush hush culture and environment of high profiled industries, as more women speak up against their abusers, leading to investigations, settlements, and court cases to get justice for the abused. One high profiled case was the Fox News scandal, where news anchor Gretchen Carlson files a lawsuit against then CEO Roger Ailes back in 2016. The lawsuit ruptured the news cycle, as more women stepped out with similar claims, including news anchor Megyn Kelly, who was one of the more famous faces of Fox News. This is a dramatization of the events. I didn’t read much about the scandal’s details beyond the film’s context, so all my thoughts will be pertaining to the film and not to the actual events. Quick Reviews

Sometimes I don't have it in me to write more than one paragraph about a movie, thus quick reviews! I don't want to dump a lot of reviews under one post, so a quick review post would likely contain three to four movies, depending on how much I've watched lately or for the past few months. Below are my thoughts on Heartbeats, Atomic Blonde, and Fun Mom Dinner.

Kubo and the Two Strings

Kubo and the Two Strings is a tale where past meets the present. The movie opens with a voiceover narration and a woman trapped in the middle of the sea during a thunderstorm. The approach on storytelling makes it seem that the narrator is simply passing on the story of the woman, but it is when the titular character is introduced, an eye already missing from his face. At present day, it is later revealed that Kubo has quite a past, and must now journey to protect himself, learning about his roots and source of power along the way.

A Million Ways to Die in the West

A lot of people were impressed with Ted. Sad to say, I was not one of those people. I thought I'd try my luck with the next McFarlane production, considering that I do enjoy Family Guy, and it's one of his strongest animated work. A Million Ways to Die in the West had a good trailer, and I was hopeful that this one I would like or at least enjoy, but I was wrong on both ends. Not only did the movie lack a stable source of humor (the movie employed different kinds), but the leading actor was sincerely unlikable. Too bad the director is the lead actor.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow White and the Huntsman is a darker take on the familiar Disney adaptation that we all know. It rivaled fellow fantasy adaptation Mirror Mirror, which was released earlier this year. Because I like Kirsten Stewart more than Lily Collins, and prefer Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, I decided to go see this one before seeing the former. Based on the pilot, trailer, advertising and the cast, I assumed that this would be the better movie. Unfortunately, I should have gone to this without much expectation as I ended up disappointed. Oh, to be fooled by advertising.
