03/15: There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job'.

The month has been slow, blog-wise. The only review I wrote this month was for my blind spot, and I had almost forgotten about it! I wasn't feeling very 'wordy', but hopefully things will go back on track. I spent the start of the month watching tv series, finishing You're the Worst, Selfie and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I'm still thinking about which show to marathon next, maybe I'll finally get back on track with The Affair or House of Cards.

01/15: Nobody puts Baby in the corner.

How's 2015 treating you so far? January seemed like a fluid month, with some major ups and downs, but my optimistic self is hoping for better things to come as the year goes by. Sundance has also started, which means a new crop of films to look out for for limited/wide release. Awards season has begun; besides SAG, Critics and Globes, there's still the Oscars, which received a lot of backlash for various reasons. Even mid-season premieres started this month. Besides Parks & Recreation and Cougar Town (both shows are ending this year), I've started watching Galavant, though the musical-medieval bit charm is starting to wear off. There's also Backstrom, but I got annoyed with one scene because the sound of the rain was muffling any conversation that was transpiring. Still giving it a chance though. Any new shows you're watching mid-season?

09/14: This is Going to Be a Long One.

My favorite part of September has arrived - fall premiere! Not only are we getting the must watch movies of the year (Oscar season is upon us a few weeks from now), but there's also the endless television show premieres! There are already some that made it to my watch list, and show's I'm considering dropping out of my roster. The upcoming months are just going to be filled with a lot of watching. A lot.

08/14: Car Chases & Cinematic Escapades

August has passed in a whirl. A lot of entertainment related events unfolded this month. There was the success of Marvel's wild card, Guardians of the Galaxy. Then there's the demise of beloved actor Robin Williams (whose filmography I need to revisit some time). The Emmy Awards was also this month, and I definitely did not expect those Sherlock awards (especially since they were going up against The Normal Heart, which was a fantastic film). Then Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally got hitched (though I don't know what to feel about it except it seems like passing news compared to the others).

I do have a question for you, though. In the world of technology, it's impossible to stay disconnected to the world. I'm not sure about the mobile culture for other countries, but I can vouch that there are a lot of differences. This month I found myself functioning without my phone. Sure, I missed a couple of calls here and there, but in a way, I did not feel as disconnected because there are other means of using the internet. Have you tried going without your phone for a couple of days? You sort of get used without the device nearby, but it does get difficult to communicate when you're nowhere near anyplace with a phone line. And with that, let's get on with this month's recap!

3/14: Jets, Explosions and Every Flying Scene in Between

So...the blog's been a bit quiet. The final awards night started this month - and was the only awards show I watched. The show went a bit predictable, with people and works securing their wins way before the coveted night. Gravity might not have won best picture, but they scored the most awards, including Best Director. I was very happy for Spike Jonze's screenplay win, and Lupita Nyong'o winning over Lawrence. Despite the slow blog activity, my movie viewing's up by numbers, instead of my usual TV focus (hence the backlog of shows I get into). I managed to catch a couple of new releases this month, including the much awaited Captain America! With the end of the month comes another new and busy month...so here's this month's recap.

02/14: It Must Be Love (Love, Love).

February greeted us with some sad news in the film industry - the demise of beloved actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman. While I haven't seen a great deal from his filmography, he greatly impressed in the ones I've seen him in. February also gave an excuse to dig up those romance movies - whether cliche, heartbreaking or simply a wonderful story of love. I haven't seen much movies lately, but I did manage to catch up with True Detective, and it really is an amazing show! I also saw the last season of Sherlock this month, and I can't wait to see what they have in store with the next one! Oscars are this Sunday (Monday morning my time), so we'll finally get the answers to our personal bets on who will take home the statue. As for catching up with all the nominees, I still have a long way to go.

01/14: Awards Month & New Films to Look Out For - Did I Miss Anything?

January has been a very busy month. I had been out of town most weekends so I wasn't able to watch as much movies and television shows. This month marked the start of the mid-season replacements. There's definitely a lot more to catch up on. One of the shows I'm looking forward to is True Detective. Have you seen it? Awards season is now upon us, and while I don't really follow awards show (primarily because I have not seen all awards contenders, so I can't fully make a personal opinion about who should win and so forth), I have been seeing snippets of it, thanks to Tumblr and fellow bloggers. Very happy that Leo got nominated though; I saw Wolf of Wall Street recently and it was amazing! Sundance was also this month, so there's a lot of films to look forward to.

August Round Up

New movies seen: 21
Repeats: 8
Total: 29

I wonder how it's like to live in Gatsby's house. A mansion, but only one person inside...that's got to be sad. Hoping the two week hiatus is going to do me some good, as I've managed to whip up a couple of reviews. August has been a busy month, and it's not going to get any slower. The last months of the year are slowly creeping in, and there's more to look forward to. Awards season is about to begin, and the return of fall television to greet us all. But enough babbling and onto this months' links!

June Round Up

New movies seen: 14
Rewinds: 2
Total: 16

June has gone by in a blur (sort of). Kind of surprise that I caught 16 movies, considering the slow pace I've been on. I launched my new soon-to-be feature, if I don't get derailed into writing the new one. If you haven't seen it, click on the A Gifted Man image on my sidebar (or you know, just click the link). I watched the remaining Batman flicks I haven't seen this month (reviews to be up soon!). I'm also in the middle of reading A Game of Thrones, which is really long but I'm halfway through. Hopefully I'll be done by the end of this month. I was planning this entire movie marathon for this past weekend, but plans fell through.

I think Game of Thrones' Red Wedding was the biggest television thing to hit this month. Read Sati's (from Cinematic Corner) recap of the episode. On a related note, an interview with Richard Madden about this particular episode from Rolling Stones.

May Round Up

New movies seen: 3
Rewinds: 3
Total: 6

And there goes the end of my somewhat blogging hiatus. Nothing much happened this month, besides work and the trip that I've been longing to have. The only big thing that happened to me tv/movie-wise is that I am now a recent convert of The Office and Parks and Rec. Besides that, I have started watching Game of Thrones to the prodding of my cousins, and partly because of the recaps I've been reading. I have stopped watching it, however, because I have started to read the books, therefore gaining more clarity in terms of who the characters are. So, enough of my rambling and now the links (that I have managed to save up before I disappeared from my screen).

April Round Up

(yup Ross, work it. via tumblr)
New films seen: 17
Rewinds: 7
Total: 24
A lot of watching, but a little writing. April has wiped me out with all the work I had to do. To be honest I don't recall much of my month besides work. It's already summer in my part of the world and let me tell you, it is hot. Scourging hot! Really missing the spring weather from nearby countries. Besides being swamped from work, I hadn't noticed that the month has breezed by. Realized that today was the final day of the month when I sat down to check the date.

Sati from Cinematic Corner's Scene of the Week: Batman Returns is making me want to see it. Michelle Pfeiffer looks amazing in it...and this is just in gif form. Imagine the movie!

For Game of Thrones fans, here's a mnemonic device from Vulture for the names of the characters. I still have yet to check out the show. I should get to it before I go away this summer. I think I will need this.

This entry about The Hangover III from Ultra Culture did get my attention.

The Big Bang Theory's been in hiatus for most of the month, but here's an article about some of the guest stars in the hit comedy show from The Hollywood Reporter.

Reading screenplays is one of my favorite past times. Here's an excerpt from Perks of Being a Wallflower, also from Vulture.

What's next for May?
I may have a Mother's Day post lined up for the weekend, and a bit of high school nostalgia when I get around to it. Hoping to put some posts on queue before I go on another trip!

March Round Up

New films seen: 5
Rewind: 6
Total: 11
March practically spelled death on my blog. I haven't been watching too many flicks, and only caught up as of late. I was supposed to have some scheduled posts before I took off for Easter weekend but hopefully I'll be pulling in some posts for this weekend. I did have a ton of marathons, but mostly of comedies. Chuck is next on my list; hopefully I'll be able to watch it this summer, as well as my endless watch list. Besides my endless watch list is another look for my blog, as well as a new url. Hopefully this one sticks.

Self plug but I participated in a blogathon this month. Head over to Life Between Films to read my entry (under Film Sloth).

Take a look at great father and son films, released by The Playlist.

I was debating on whether to see either The Croods or Oz (and chose the latter). While I have yet to see the former (and post my review about Oz), check out m.brown's review of Croods down at Two Dollar Cinema.

Spring Breakers is currently the movie 'word of mouth' in the blog sphere these days. Check out Mettel Ray's take on the film.

If you're a fan of Game of Thrones (which I have yet to watch, but judging on the ravings of my cousins, I better get started), check out Sati from Cinematic Corner's Game of Thrones posts in anticipation for the third season (which is tonight).

What's Next for April?
Besides my late reviews, I have a collaboration post in the works. Hopefully I'll get through those before my work ultimately piles up.

February Round Up

yup, we're all just going to watch ezra do this. from here
New films seen: 20
Rewinds: 6

The shortest month of the year is already over yet it felt like the last two weeks have been awfully long. I felt like I've been repeating Friday thrice in one week, only to find out that it's either Wednesday or Thursday. After changing my wires endlessly, I decided to finally retire my laptop. I've been using it since I was a freshman in college and now's a pretty good time to retire it. I wish I could upgrade to a Macbook (like every other person here) but that's going to take a lot of saving.

I'm not going to be putting Oscar coverage links over here, but one of my favorite film bloggers has officially stopped blogging. Cinematic Paradox was one of the first ones I've read and Stevee's really good. She is going to be missed!

Here's an Oscar-related post though. Rachel and Jess over at Reel Insight launched their yearly 30 Days of Oscars in anticipation of the Academy Awards.

If you're a fan of Ally McBeal, check out Sati from Cinematic Corner's post about her favorite Ally McBeal episodes.

Besides reading books, I enjoy reading screenplays. Vulture featured David Magee's toughest scene to write in Life of Pi.

Daniel from Top 10 Films wrote about his Top 10 Female Buddy Films.

What's Next for March?
Hopefully I'll be able to write more reviews, but I'm getting a feeling it's going to be quite a busy month!
Edit: I'm contemplating on making some aesthetic changes to the blog (including the blog url). I'll be closing my blog for a day to implement these changes, but will announce the new url a week before.

January Round Up

"January seems to be so long...it's the end of January already?"

New films seen: 17
Rewinds: 2
Total: 19
Awards season officially kicked off this month, and in a couple of weeks, it would be the most important awards night, The Academy Awards. Argo has been pulling awards here and there, but there's still a slight chance Lincoln will win the Oscar, so we just have to wait and see. I've been out for some time so I missed an entire week of movie-viewing. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up this month, movie and blog-wise.

Some links:
Mettel Ray wrote about her favorite Friends moments. Her list is great! While checking it out, go read about her views on the downfall of comedies (part 1 and part 2).

Sofia from Film Flare shares her ten favorite Paul Newman and Cary Grant films.

I haven't seen the entirety of New York, I Love You (but have seen Paris, je'taime). Alex from And So It Begins gives a breakdown of the film, which I think you should give a read before seeing the flick. Also, check out the In Character feature. The last post was about Ralph Fiennes, who is really good. I have yet to see Schindler's List, but I tend to stay away from Holocaust films because they immediately make me sad.

Sati from Cinematic Corner shares her favorite scenes from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as her comedic take on Leo not being nominated. He is always snubbed for the awards; he already deserves an Oscar so can they give it to him already?

Castor from Anomalous Material shares Oscar nominated short from Disney entitled Paperman. I guess they're also taking the Pixar short route. Good luck to them!

Ruth from Flix Chatter writes about being able to travel via cinema in In Bruges.

What's Next on Feb?
I still have a couple of reviews to write. Maybe an anti-Valentine post? Community's almost premiering, so that's something to look forward to.
